Why Focus on Schools?

Kids and adolescents spend most of their time in school or with friends from school. A competitive school culture that places high value on achieving a particular body ideal can promote negative body image and unhealthy behaviors. Because of this, schools are an ideal setting to combat negative body image by actively promoting body positivity. One effective approach to this is to embed body positivity programs into health class curricula. Given the sensitive topic and potential for negative outcomes, it is necessary to use a program or curriculum that has been rigorously tested and found to be helpful for students.
