ABOUT ME

I am a 17-year-old student at Greenwich Academy. I have been interested in psychology since an early age. As I grew older, I noticed the great value placed on achieving a certain body ideal in my community and the negative impact this has had on some of my peers. Because of this, I began studying the impact of negative body image in high school students through the Student Participatory Research Program (SPARC) program at my school.

Several of my classmates and I interviewed and surveyed adolescents in our community and learned that the vast majority of adolescents are affected by some degree of negative body image. I also delved into the psychology and body-image literature and learned that high rates of body image concerns are not unique to my school. But it doesn’t have to be this way. I am determined to work with my school leadership to reverse these statistics and put an end to students suffering and harming themselves in an effort to meet unattainable and unhealthy body standards. My goal for this website is to create a platform that promotes body positivity and inspires schools to make a commitment to creating and nurturing body-positive communities.
